This small book -The Jivamukti Yoga Chant Book- contains a selection of mantras and prayers drawn from many spiritual traditions. These sacred words are to be used for karmic purification leading to healing, freedom, and illumination.
Sufi teacher and master musician Hazrat Inayat Khan taught that the voice is the barometer for the soul. Its transparency reveals the soul’s every condition. Joy, sorrow, anger and pain - each has its own voice that comes through, despite the most skillful deception. By affecting our voice, we can affect our soul, instilling in it the qualities we desire.
The nature of reality is vibration. Sound is the source of all manifestation. Hazrat Inayat Khan said, “The knower of the mystery of sound knows the mystery of the whole universe.” When you experience the power of sound - which is the power of music - you hold the key, which can alter your destiny. Mantra provides a powerful tool that can release you from your past karmas (or conditioned habits) which reside in your body as mental patterns.
We would do well to choose our words wisely, because it is through our words that we have the greatest power to affect our reality. For most of us it will take a lot of continuous practice with “spell casting” - chanting mantras correctly - in order to bring about a shift of perception, a magical resolving of past karmas. Mantras can help us evolve by helping us break free of the small box we have become accustomed to living in and perceiving reality from.
The sacred words in this book are intended to bring the practitioner closer to their divine eternal blissful nature. Chanting tunes the subtle vibrations of the practitioner to the cosmic frequencies. Once tuned, the practitioner can enjoy Yoga - automatic harmony with the Divine, pulsating in the ocean of bliss.
